AIMS/EHR Integration
CLOSED-LOOP MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

Overview
The barcode on syringes prepared by Safe Label System, or any syringe with a barcode, can be scanned at administration to electronically document “hands-free” into the patient record at administration using SLS-WAVE, an accessory to Safe Label System. This process brings bar code mediation administration (BCMA) to the perioperative environment bringing standardization throughout the hospital. It aligns with several ISMP Guidelines, including (a) use machine-readable coding to verify patients and medications/solutions prior to administration,(b) implement machine-readable coding workflows to confirm the medication/solution selection prior to administration, and (c) implement and integrate machine-readable coding (e.g barcode scanning, RFID) to support real-time EHR documentation of medication doses and fluid administration in all preoperative/preprocedural, intraoperative/intraprocedural and postoperative/postprocedural settings. This process:
- Helps maximize revenue by automatically recording the drug code for improved charge capture and billing accuracy
- Assists with improved patient outcomes using visual and audible2 safety checks at administration
- Helps save time reducing manual clicks and tasks during documentation
